Ethan Harper from Butler, Wisconsin joined the Sea Cadets with Marine Corps aspirations and a clear purpose: he wanted a program that would give him discipline, leadership, and military knowledge early — not as an adult looking back, but as a teenager looking forward. Sea Cadets delivered on all three.

The Leadership Lesson
Harper credits mentorship from Petty Officer Flores for shaping his leadership philosophy. The lesson he took wasn't about authority — it was about how to lead without being harsh. How to maintain standards while maintaining composure. How to hold people accountable while keeping their respect.
That balance — high standards, even temperament — is the foundation of every effective leader. Harper learned it in uniform, in Brookfield, Wisconsin.
Overcoming Challenges
Physical training presented real difficulties early on. Rather than make excuses, Harper developed a system: mental preparation, consistent physical training, and the discipline to do the work even when it wasn't easy. He learned that consistent effort doesn't just build capability — it builds belief in your own capability.
Balancing It All
Beyond Sea Cadets, Harper competes in school sports, volunteers in his community, and trains in polo and Jiu-Jitsu. He manages it all with calendar planning and disciplined time allocation — skills the program taught him and that will serve him for life.
Future Goals
Harper aims for Marine Corps service — potentially in infantry or reconnaissance. Within the Sea Cadets, he's working toward higher rank, more advanced training, and the chance to mentor newer cadets the way Petty Officer Flores mentored him.
