The Process

6 Steps to Enrollment

01
Step One
Fill Out the Interest Form

Start here. Fill out our online interest form with your cadet's basic information and your contact details. It takes about 2 minutes. We'll be in touch within 48 hours to answer any questions and schedule your orientation.

02
Step Two
Attend an Orientation

The New Cadet Orientation (NCO) is your first official in-person step. Led by Senior Staff Members, it covers program details, benefits, requirements, and what to expect. Both the prospective cadet and a parent or guardian must attend together. Contact us to schedule your orientation date.

03
Step Three
Attend a Shadow Drill

Shadow Drill is a one-day event during a regular scheduled drill weekend. Prospective cadets shadow current cadets through a full drill day — seeing exactly what the program looks like from the inside. Uniform measurements are also taken at this time.

What to wear: Plain dark blue Hanes t-shirt · Dark pants (jeans OK, no holes) · Gym shoes · Filled water bottle

04
Step Four
Complete Your Application Package

Submit all required documents to complete your enrollment application. Your application package will be provided to you by a staff member — no download needed. Documents include:

  • Member Information & Consent / Release of Liability
  • Report of Medical History (completed by parent/guardian)
  • Report of Medical Exam (DoD form, completed by a healthcare professional)
  • Medical History Supplemental (if applicable for prescription medications)
  • Request for Accommodation (if needed)
  • Immunization Record (required)
  • Copy of Medical Insurance Card (or statement of non-coverage)
05
Step Five
Pay the Enrollment Fee

The enrollment fee is $275. Annual renewal is $175. This covers program administration, materials, and coordination. Advanced training courses carry separate fees, but these are significantly lower than comparable experiences.

Payment can also be brought to your Shadow Drill. Contact us if you need to discuss financial assistance options.

06
Step Six
Meet Grooming Standards

As the only DoD-sponsored youth organization, Sea Cadets wear regulation Navy uniforms — and with that comes appearance standards:

  • Male cadets: Fade cut, no hair touching ears, no hair on head longer than 4 inches
  • Female cadets: Long hair in a bun at the nape; short styles per Female Hairstyle Regulations
  • No jewelry except a hidden necklace

Note: 13-year-olds may serve in Sea Cadets at the discretion of the Commanding Officer.
